Straight answers

What buyers say before they call

Buyers who lean fiberglass usually have two doubts: whether aluminum is the better boat for them, and whether it can look this good. Start with the second one.

Bare aluminum

Same shop, eleven finishes

Every boat in these photos is welded aluminum. Tap a finish to see one that left the shop that way.

“Aluminum isn't for me because…”

…saltwater eats it.Is saltwater bad for aluminum boats?

Salt alone is not the problem. Galvanic corrosion is. Marine-grade aluminum handles saltwater well, but it corrodes fast when it sits in salt against stainless, bronze or copper with no protection. The fixes are the same on every boat: sacrificial anodes, isolated fittings, a freshwater rinse, and no copper-based bottom paint.

…it rides rough in chop. Are aluminum boats good in rough water?

A light, flat hull rides harder in chop than a deep-V fiberglass boat. That is the trade for floating shallow. If you cross open bay most trips, the X-Series is the answer: .190 plate, 26-inch sides and a 102-inch beam. Ask to ride one before you decide.

…it won't hold its value.Do aluminum boats hold their value?

A welded aluminum hull has no gelcoat to blister, no core to soak up water and no stringers to rot. What moves the resale number is motor hours, rigging and how the boat was kept. One Google reviewer bought a Boat Right in 2001 and still runs it.

…it won't last. What is the lifespan of an aluminum boat?

Decades. A welded hull that is rinsed, kept away from dissimilar metals and repowered when the motor gives out will outlast several engines. Boat Right has been welding hulls for the Texas coast since 1990.

“It won't look as good because…”

…aluminum means rivets and bare metal. Are Boat Right boats welded or riveted?

Every Boat Right is welded, then finished the way the buyer asks. The boats in the picker above are all aluminum: painted hulls, T-tops, towers, embossed decking and stitched seats. Bare aluminum is a choice, not the only option.

…it's a jon boat with a console.What is a Boat Right?

A Boat Right is a custom aluminum boat built by Boat Right Marine in Alvin, Texas. The company has built fishing boats and work boats since 1990, from 12 to 28 feet, one at a time, to the buyer's specification. The fishing line is the Back Bay, High Tide, Classic, Big Shell, X-Series and Flounder Boats. The commercial side is work boats and fire and rescue boats.

…I can't get the layout I want. Can I choose my own layout on a Boat Right?

Yes. Console position and height, deck layout, storage, casting platforms and gigging decks are laid out around how you fish or work. Bring drawings if you have them. One owner's review says the shop built the boat he had pictured in his head. See custom fabrication.

“I'm not sure about a custom builder because…”

…there's no price on the site. How much does a custom aluminum boat cost?

Every hull is priced to its build: length, gauge, power and rigging. For scale, the two fire department rescue boats on the public record were $88,850 and $81,228.78 in 2024. Starting-at range for fishing hulls: Austin to supply Call 281-992-4554 for a number on your build.

…I can't see one first.Can I see a Boat Right before I order?

Yes. The shop is at 4646 Mandale Road in Alvin, 30 minutes south of Houston. Walk the floor, see hulls in progress and stand in the boat, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. There is also a video gallery.

…custom takes forever. How long does a custom build take?

ESTAbout 10 to 14 weeks from deposit to pickup, depending on rigging and how full the build queue is. Ask for today's date when you call.

…I'm not in Texas.Does Boat Right build for buyers outside Texas?

Yes. Boat Right boats have gone to owners in Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina as well as across Texas. See the map.

…what if something goes wrong later?Does a Boat Right come with a warranty?

ESTA limited hull warranty covers welds and structure for the original owner, and motors and electronics carry their makers' warranties. One owner's review notes the shop still takes his calls and has made changes since delivery.
